Postdoctoral position available on the gut microbiome of Drosophila

A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available immediately to investigate how gut microorganisms, including transient probiotic taxa, protect the animal host against hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia.  The project will determine the impacts of microbial fermentation compounds, including products of polymicrobial metabolism, on host energy storage, with particular emphasis on the mobilization of lipid; and explore the metabolic effects of probiotic Lactobacillus in the context of different microbial communities.  For this position, previous experience of metabolism and basic molecular biology is essential.
